Linda Jean (Schladweiler) Stangl
April 19, 1943 ~ March 5, 2018

Linda Jean Stangl, 74, passed from this life on March 5, 2018 in Stillwater, OK after a 4-year battle with breast cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Linda was born on April 19, 1943 to Clarence and Norma Schladweiler in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She lived near Bath, South Dakota while her father served in World War II and upon his return, moved to Madison, South Dakota and in 1949 they moved to a farm at the edge of town. In 1967 Linda took the hand of her love, Gerald Albert Stangl in marriage in Madison, South Dakota. 

Linda graduated from General Beadle High School in 1961 and was highly involved in Home Economics and Agricultural 4-H clubs. She was just as active in helping with the family farm. Linda had a great love for horses and playing sports. 

Linda worked as a dental assistant and a teacher's assistant to finance her way thru college and in 1968 she graduated from Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota with a degree in Physical Education, Health and Recreation. Linda and Gerald moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma in the fall of 1968 where she worked as a Teachers Aid at the Chilocco Indian School, there she published a curriculum book for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In 1971, they moved to Perry, Oklahoma and a year later purchased an 80-acre farm. She bred and raised Appaloosa race and show horses for 25 years. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Association, the National Appaloosa Horse Club and five regional Appaloosa horse clubs. In 1989, she received the national Breeder's Incentive Award in Las Vegas, Nevada from the National Appaloosa Horse Club. Besides her horse hobby Linda loved to raise cattle, and work with homeless cats and dogs. She would raise gardens and loved to hunt, fish and camp. She enjoyed outdoor sports, individual sports and sewing. She helped her husband build barns, fences and other things to beautify their farm. Later Linda worked as a factory worker, forklift operator and truck driver at Rush Metals in Billings, Oklahoma. In the late 1970s, she was a bindery worker at OSU Printing and Publishing and later at Career-Tech Print Shop in Stillwater, Oklahoma to the mid 1980s. Linda and Gerald returned to Stillwater in 1999. She was an active supporter of the Stillwater Humane Society, Companion Animal Assistance Program and the Stillwater Senior Center. She was an avid player of 8-ball pool and various card and table games.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her husband.

The family is thankful for the excellent caregiving in recent months by Karman Legacy Hospice and Golden Heart Senior Care, and also the assistance from friends and churches.

Donations may be made in Linda's name to Companion Animal Assistance Program or Karman Legacy Hospice, both of Stillwater.
