Julie Ann Stanford, age 72 of Okla. City, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital.
Julie was born August 2, 1948 in Colby, KS, the oldest of four children born to Leighton and Oma Goble. After a short stay in Kansas the family moved to the suburbs of Denver, Co where both of her parents worked at the Gates Rubber Factory. After her Granddad Lee Gibson’s passing in 1959, the family moved back to Oklahoma to be closer to Granny Gibson and settled on part of the Gibson home place in Oilton, Oklahoma.
This is where Julie finished her education and graduated from Oilton High School in 1967. After graduation, while following her dad’s jobs of installing house siding in the hollers and foothills of Kentucky, Julie answered the call to duty to serve her country and joined the United States Air Force in Ashland, Kentucky. Julie served proudly for two years, six months and twenty-five days. Julie was assigned to the 46th Communications Squadron as a Communications NCO at Barksdale AF Base.
While Julie was in the service, she met her (BFF) Best Friend Forever, Barbra Grayson Samuel and they have always gone through the good times as well as the bad together. After leaving the Air Force she went to work at Western Electric plant in Bossier City, La. She became homesick and transferred to the Western Electric Plant in Oklahoma City where she took up residence. By chance, on a night out at the John Wayne Club, she met a young man named A.J. Stanford. They were the perfect match and they both knew it, and just a few months later, on November 10, 1972, they were married in Newcastle. They first made their home in Moore and later Okla. City, where they raised their only son, Anthony. In 1979 Julie got an associate in Mid-Management from South Oklahoma City Junior College.
Julie served for US Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, Civil Aviation Registry, with 33 years and 7 months of service, retiring as the Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Registry. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed traveling. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothing for family and friends, a skill she learned from her mother. Julie was a bright soul; a loving wife and mother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: her son, Aaron Stanford; parents, Leighton and Oma Goble and sister, Janell Carlile.
Julie is survived by: her husband, A.J. Stanford of the home; her son, Anthony Stanford of Dallas, TX; Brother, Jerry Goble and wife Susie of San Diego, CA; Sister, Lois Blankinship and husband Marion of Glencoe, OK, and a host of other family and friends.
