Dena Bea (Slate) Stanfill

Dena Bea (Slate) Stanfill
February 10, 1923 ~ March 12, 2014

Dena Bea Slate Stanfill was born February 10, 1923 to Marie Crockett and Walter Gray Slate in Big Cabin, Oklahoma. She was the middle child with an older brother, Robert Lee Slate and a younger brother, Walter Gray Slate, Jr.

She grew up in Vinita, OK and married her high school sweetheart, Ray Stanfill. They were happily married until he went to be with the Lord on March 12, 2014.

She and her husband moved to Westville in 1945 when he returned from active duty in World War II. They owned and operated Stanfill Milling Company until the late sixties. They then had Stanfill Farms until retiring in 2012.

She was a wonderful wife and mother who delighted in maintaining a happy home for her family. Although she preferred the quiet home life, she was quick to give of her time, talent and resources to help others and improve the City of Westville.

She departed this life with her three children by her side on January 2, 2015 at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her three children: Monaray and husband James Noah, Dena Ann and husband Ray Melton, James Rodney Stanfill and wife Dana, all of Westville, OK.

She is also survived by 5 grandsons: Kevin and Hollie Melton of Pasadena, TX, James Ray and Vanessa Stanfill of Watts, OK, Dr. Ryan Noah and fiancé Dr. Lindsey Hammond of Tulsa, OK, Jason R. Stanfill of Broken Arrow, OK, Casey and Tina Melton of Galveston, TX.

She also leaves 4 great grandchildren: Kinleigh and Kinedi Melton of Pasadena, TX, Riley and Jaxson Stanfill of Broken Arrow, two sisters-in-law: Maxine Cafego of Knoxville, TN, Betty Slate of Portland, OR and several nieces and nephews.

Although she had been homebound for the past several years, she will be greatly missed by her caregivers, Bobbie Danner and Angie Groat, her lifelong friend, Dona Belle Guthrie.

Memorial services were held at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Westville, OK with Doug Davis officiating.
