Donna Jean Spoons, also known as Petie, resident of Ponca City, Okla., died on Nov. 26, 2018 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., surrounded by loved ones at the age of 63. Donna was born on July 23, 1955 in Pawhuska, Okla. to Walter and Mary Harriman. She grew up in Pawhuska and graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1973. After graduating high school Donna pursued her secondary education at multiple universities before finding the right fit at Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught history in 7th and 8th grades within the Ponca City School district for 13 years before leaving work to take care of her family.
On April 17, 1981 Donna married Robert Spoons in an intimate ceremony surrounded by family and friends. They were introduced to each other in 1980 when Robert saw Donna across the lawn at Central State University wearing a bright orange backpack. They had five children together and created a loving life together in Ponca City during their 37 years of marriage. A favorite hobby of theirs was watching movies together, constantly on the search for 50 'good' movies to watch in a row based on a promise made by Robert after sitting through a terrible movie on their first date.
Donna was a vivacious person with an infectious laugh; she could lighten up any conversation and was a bright light in the lives of her loved ones. She was constantly coming up with creative outlets for herself, teaching herself how to paint and create mosaics among her latest ventures. She spread her joy for these creations by gifting them to others.
Donna loved her family, she loved watching her children grow and start their lives on their own, and especially loved being 'Grandma' to her five grandchildren. She enjoyed family gatherings where everyone came together for dinner and she would get the chance to play with her grandchildren and often get the opportunity to rock them to sleep.
Donna is survived by her husband, Robert, of Ponca City; son, Robert Spoons and wife Debbie, and three grandchildren, Robert, Nora, and Sera Spoons, of Ponca City; son, Jacob Spoons and wife Nicole, and two grandchildren, Felicity and Rex Spoons, of Ponca City; daughter, Jessica Scully and her husband John Scully, of Stillwater, Okla.; son, Trevor Spoons and grandson Lucien Spoons, of Ponca City; sister, Mary Ann Keller and her husband, David Keller, of Tulsa, Okla.; nephew, Robert Keller; great-niece, Lainey Keller, of Tulsa, Okla.; niece, Kelsey McNatt and her husband Justin McNatt, and great-niece, Emma McNatt, of Denver, Colo.; niece, Kaila Keller, of Dallas, Texas; and numerous cousins.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Evie.
