Larry Spencer

Larry Spencer
Jan. 10, 1944 ~ Oct. 8, 2015

Larry Spencer, 71, of Norman, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at his home. Larry was born on January 10, 1944, in Council Bluffs, IA, where he grew up and lived during his early years.

After trying his hand at several careers, he finally found his passion in selling cars. That, combined with his love for the Sooners, gave way to his relocation to Norman, OK, where he owned Larry Spencer Chevrolet and met his wife, Debbie. Larry loved life and lived it to the fullest and could entertain like no other! He created so many opportunities for others so they could work hard and become something in life. Although small in stature, he was BIG in so many ways.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and June Stortz; and his brother, Raymond Spencer.

He is survived by his loving family, which includes his wife of 27 years, Debbie Spencer; three sons, Eddie Spencer and wife Su, Blake Greene, and Tyler Greene; three grandchildren, Phoebe Spencer, Edie Spencer, and Oliver Greene; brother, Dick Spencer and wife Mary; sister-in-law, Linda Spencer; and his beloved pet, "Bronx."

Friends are invited to greet the family from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 11 at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Those who are not able to visit during that time may pay their respects anytime on Sunday afternoon between the hours of 1 and 6 p.m. The family will hold a private service for Larry at his final resting place.

For those who wish to make a contribution in Larry's memory, the family suggests they be made to "Big Dogs Huge Paws," a non-profit charity offering rescue and rehabilitation services for large dogs. Donations may be made online at www.bigdogshugepaws.com/donate or by mail at P.O. Box 24230, Denver, CO 80224.

We will mourn the healthy Larry who lived life and gave so many people a chance to do better for themselves, but we take comfort in knowing that he'll always have the best seat in the house for the Red River Shootout! Boomer Sooner!

Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
