On Thursday, April 4, 2024, Joy Lynn Spencer left her frail body and became a citizen of God’s glorious kingdom where she is reunited with the father of her children and her friend Ronnie Burns and many other family members and friends. Born on August 26, 1956, in Wilson, Oklahoma, Joy's life was a testament to her name, bringing joy and light to everyone she encountered.
Joy loved her family with a fierce love, and she passed that way of loving family onto her daughters and grandchildren. She was very generous and kind to all that knew her. She was known to be a free spirit dancing to the beat of her own drum. Joy was a beautiful, crazy, and funny soul, but more importantly she was loved.
Her professional life as a hairstylist was marked by her brilliant talent and the deep bonds she formed with her clients. Known often for her outward beauty, it was her inward beauty that truly showed. Joy was affectionately known as the "dog whisperer," her generous spirit extended to all living creatures. Every dog she met was excited to just be in her presence. Her own four dogs meant the world to her and will miss her greatly. Her interests were simple yet profound: loving her family and her dogs with all her heart.
Joy's legacy continues through her loving husband, Joe Earles of Tulsa, Oklahoma, her devoted daughters Amy Wiskus and husband James, and Leah Burns, both of Durant. Her life was further enriched by her granddaughters Lindsay and Lacey Wiskus of Durant, Olivia Glinn and fiancé Nathan Parnell of Norman, and her grandson Landon Wiskus of Durant. She leaves behind her loving parents, Jerry and Ginger Spencer, her brother Norman Spencer, and his wife Peggy, and her nephews Cody, Nick, and Josh Spencer. Joy also leaves behind her bonus son, Jason Earles and wife Ladonna, and bonus grandchildren Garrett and Ashton Earles, all of Durant. She is also survived by Debbe Koons, "Meemaw" to her grandchildren.
Those who knew Joy will remember her as the epitome of kindness, always ready with a funny quip and a generous heart. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Joy was preceded in death by the father of her children, Ronnie Burns, and bonus son Evan Earles. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by the countless lives she touched with her warmth and humor.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
