Jimmy Dale Spencer
June 12, 1938 ~ October 9th, 2017

Jimmy Dale Spencer entered this life on June 12, 1938. He entered the eternal gates of heaven on October 9th, 2017 at the age of 79. He was born at home in Cameron, OK to Ben and Madeline Spencer. He graduated from Cameron High School in 1956. He came to Durant in 1957, a 6' 240 lb raw-boned country boy from Leflore county on a basketball scholarship to play for legendary coach Bloomer Sullivan. He played for 2 years and went on to earn his degree in 1961. While at Southeastern he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau fraternity. There he and married his Wife Linda McPherson of 59 years on August 24th, 1958 in Poteau, OK. Upon graduation he taught and coached the Yuba Cowhands and later at his alma mater the Cameron Yellowjackets.

He had various occupations throughout his life but his greatest passion was cooking for others. He owned and operated the Ice House Restaurant downtown Durant for many years. Later in life he became a CASA volunteer, delivered Meals on Wheels, cooked many meals for Families Feeding Families, and United Methodist Men. His greatest joy was cooking for his own family.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Durant for 45 years and could be found every Sunday morning at the door with a big smile and a big umbrella if it was raining. He deeply cared for everyone he came in contact with. If you met him and he wasn't smiling then you've never met him. His heart was truly bigger than the man.   He will always be missed and never forgotten.
