Barbara Gayle Sparkman, 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home on November 20, 2013 in Norman, Oklahoma. She was born October 11, 1954 in Glasgow, Kentucky to Hollan Thomas and Gladys Ray Sexton.
Barbara married Mike Sparkman on December 30, 1977 in Stillwater, Oklahoma and they raised two sons, Matthew and Joseph.
Barbara was a Registered Dietitian and Program Director for the Oklahoma County Senior Nutrition Program, retiring after 40 years of service in 2012. She loved cooking for her family, reading books and gardening. Barbara was also known for making sure everyone ate plenty of food while relaxing by the pool and being the “lady that runs this place”. She will be remembered by her family as a strong willed and loving person.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mike Sparkman of the home; two sons, Matthew and wife Deane of Norman and Joseph and wife Megn of Norman; two brothers, Garry Sexton and wife Teresa of Glasgow, Kentucky, Jeffery Sexton and wife Darlene of Smiths Grove, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Chase, Sylas, Jaxon, Gray, and Boyd; and a host of family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Barbara Sparkman to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 115 Park Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73102.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman.
Arrangements for Barbara and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
