James C. "Jim" Sodowsky

June 22, 1923 ~ September 21, 2014

James "Jim" C. Sodowsky, 91, of Oxford, formerly of Arkansas City, KS, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014, at the Riverview Manor in Oxford. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Pastor Babe Standerfer will officiate. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Friends may greet the family 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jim was born June 22, 1923, to RA and Hazel F. (Yeoman) Sodowsky in Kaw City, OK. He was reared and educated in Blackwell graduating from Blackwell High School in 1941. After high school Jim joined the U.S. Army. He served his country during WWII where he fought behind enemy lines for six months as part of the Merrill's Marauders. After the war Jim was honorably discharged from the Army. He moved back to Blackwell to help with the family farm.

In 1955, Jim reenlisted with the U.S. Air Force until his retirement in 1973.

On September 6, 1956, he married Lillie M. Wheeler in Blackwell, OK. The couple made their home in San Antonio, TX at Lackland Air Force Base. They also lived in various places throughout the world. After his retirement they moved to Arkansas City in 1975, where they made their home.

Jim went to work for USD 470 as a substitute teacher, administrative specialist for the district warehouse, and was the supervisor for the controlled study room until his retirement in 1988.

Jim loved gardening, woodworking, his dog Babe, and most off all he cherished his family.

Survivors include his daughters, Denise Jo Sodowsky of Wichita, KS; Diana Kay Sodowsky of Arkansas City, KS; sister, Ruth "Aliene" Marland of Blackwell, OK; brother, Jess Boyd Sodowsky of Oxford, KS; two grandchildren, Corbett W, Dalton and wife Amanda of Perry, OK; Catherine A. Sodowsky of Arkansas City, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death parents, his wife Lillie May, and a brother Donald.

A memorial has been established with the Trinity Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.rindt-erdman.com.
