Walter Eugene Smith
February 25, 1959 ~ June 25, 2022

Durant, OK- Walter Eugene Smith was born Wednesday, February 25th, 1959 in Fort Worth, Texas to Myrl Smith and Shirley (McKinnon) Smith. He passed from this life on Saturday, June 25th, 2022 in Denison, Texas at the age of 63.

Walter grew up and lived here all of his life. In his younger days, he was an avid team roper and loved his horse Baldy. Walter married the love of his life, Lori Lovelace, on July 15, 1978 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Walter was a small business owner of automotive paint sales for over thirty-five years. In his later years, he turned his attention to wood working. He could make anything and would always give it away. Walter’s greatest achievement was his family and spending time with them. Walter and Lori are members of the Faith Lutheran Church.

Walter was preceded in death by his daughter, Callie Jean Smith; and mother, Shirley Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lori, of the home; children, Missy Simpkins and Travis Smith; grandchildren, Caleb and Conner Simpkins, and Jakob and Callie Smith; his father, Myrl (Smitty) Smith; brother, Paul David Smith and his wife, Carol; sisters, Debbie Boyer and her husband, Ron, and Shelly Micheal and her husband Derrick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services to celebrate Walter’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 30th, at Faith Lutheran Church 3802 N. Washington Ave. Durant, OK, with Pastor Jerry Peterson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Russell, Terry Risner, Rick Conditt, David Sorrell, Tommy Roundtree, Trey Roundtree, Marty Lovelace, Randy Rochell, Joseph Simpkins, Shannon Jackson and Curtis Isenburg.
