On Thursday, January 7, 2021, Richard Winifred Smith left this earth to join his loved ones in heaven. Richard was born on October 27, 1948, in Chickasha, OK to Charles and Marguerite Smith.
Richard and Sherry were wed in May 1968, in Chickasha, OK and spent fifty-two blissful years together. Their family grew by the birth of their children Anthony, Aaron and Christy. Richard’s family meant the world to him and he always treasured the moments that he had with his grandchildren.
Richard earned his bachelor’s degree in business and economics from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He also attended Oklahoma State University making him a lifetime Pokes fan. Richard made a career working in the oilfields of Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. He was a mud engineer and eventually became the owner of Bar-Chem Mud Company. When Richard wasn’t working, you could find him on the golf course playing a round of golf, hunting, or playing cards with friends.
In September of 1968, Richard enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. He served in the 44th Hospital Evac Unit as a medic, working at various hospitals in the Oklahoma City area.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, Charles Franklin Smith; mother, Marguerite (Orahood) Smith of Chickasha, OK; son, Anthony Smith and granddaughter Cami Smith of Edmond, OK; sisters, Dixie Belcher of Sapulpa, OK, and Cathy Wilson Rogers of Chickasha, OK.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Elaine (Willis) Smith of Yukon, OK; son, Aaron Smith and wife, Misty of Yukon, OK; daughter, Christy Kruchten of Centennial, CO; daughter-in-law Devin Smith of Edmond, OK; sister Sheila Herald of Corinth, TX. Richard also leaves behind grandchildren, Kalli and Kristen Smith of Yukon, OK; Conner and Catelynn Smith of Edmond, OK; Corrinne and Kellen Kruchten of Centennial, CO.
A memorial service in honor of Richard is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Surrey Hills Baptist Church, 12421 N. Mustang Rd., Yukon, OK 73099.
