He is preceded in death by his parents R.T. Smith and Wanda Smith, as well as his older brother, James Busby.
The family moved to Enid, Oklahoma when Richard was a young boy, where he attended Enid schools. He was a life-long resident of Enid, Oklahoma. He often said he loved Enid's small-town atmosphere.
As a teenager, Richard began his work-life at Central Machine & Tool, located in Enid. Over his four decades of employment with Central Machine & Tool, he worked his way up to Supervisor, and he was loved and respected by his work family. He recently had retired from Central Machine & Tool due to health issues, and he expressed to his family that he loved and missed his work family. He was an animal lover and always had a dog by his side.
He was a lover of all Rock music, attending over 30 concerts of his favorite bands ... his favorite activity. Richard also loved watching old western movies and martial arts films. He truly was an old soul.
