Nellie Smith was born on April 20, 1912 in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. In 1930 she married her husband Vestus Smith. Nellie and Vestus came to California in 1936 during the "Great Dust Bowl" era. Throughout the years they became very involved in church, eventually becoming pastors. First of Greenacres Assembly of God, then Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God.
Nellie is survived by her brother, Lee Garner; sister, Dorothy Starr; son, Michael Smith, Sr.; grandchildren, Richard Bennett, Donald Odell, Ronald Odell, Michael Smith, Jr., Brandon Smith, and Lisa Barron; many great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Vestus Smith; daughter, Nadine Schneider; brother, Thomas Bud Garner; sisters, Gladys Garner and Addie Wilbanks.
Nellie was a resident at California Care Center for over eight years. Special thanks to those who cared for her at California Care Center.
Nellie was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was one of the sweetest, easiest going people you could ever meet. She could find the good in anyone. We are thankful for the many years we had with her and the inspiration she was to us. Words cannot describe how much mom will be missed. I know she is finally at home with her Lord where at last she will get a good night's sleep.
