Nora Jane (Clark) Smith was born on January 27, 1937 to George Clark and Octavia (Dunn) Clark in Norman, Oklahoma. After her mother died when Jane was two months old, she was raised in Lexington, Oklahoma by her father and grandmother, Nora Bertrand Clark.
In 1955 she married Harold Gene Smith. They were married for twenty-four years and had two sons and two daughters, all of whom were raised in Purcell. For a few years she worked at the Purcell Hospital transcribing medical records, but the largest part of her professional life was spent at Joseph Harp Correctional Center in the medical unit where she found much fulfillment. After retirement she enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren, working in her yard and garden, social time with friends, small groups at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, and working elections in her local precinct. She was an enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Jane died on June 12, 2016 at her home in Purcell.
In addition to her father, mother, and grandmother, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Mable Sherman Clark; and sister, Alice Clark Meerians.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Smith and wife Lisa of Fargo, North Dakota and David Smith and wife Julie of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Diane Smith Fredell and husband John of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Lisa Smith Campbell and husband Doug of St. Petersburg, Florida; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are pending with Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell for later this summer when her family can gather from around the country to celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, the Purcell Senior Center of the Chickasaw Nation, or the church or charity of your choice. Send online condolences @wilsonlittle.com May Jane, through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory!
