Margot H. Smith, resident of Ponca City, passed away peacefully Friday, September 8, 2017 at her home. She was 84 years old.

Margot was born January 7th, 1933 in Berlin, Germany to Johannes and Elizabeth Licht. She was the youngest of 7 children. She grew up In Berlin during World War II. After the war she worked as a Nanny, and it was during this time Margot met the love of her life, Lt. Col. Margot played a role in helping at the family clothing store, "Smitty's", in downtown Ponca City. By the early 1960's they had brought a son into the world, Rex, and a few years later a daughter, Simone. Margot played a vital role in bringing up both children and was greatly involved with all activities they participated in.

Margot may have been from Germany but she was very proud of becoming an American Citizen. She loved the United States and made it her home. She was always happy to have company over, loved cooking and entertaining, and was fondly known to many as "Oma". She always had a big heart and was willing to help anyone in need.

Some of Margot's favorite things to do were to go out to the Fly-in's at the Ponca City Airport to see friends, have breakfast and visit. She was an animal lover, especially her dogs (too many to count). She loved feeding her birds out on the patio. She loved snow in the winter, and being able to sled down the hill at the house. She also loved Sooner Football, and listening to her music. Above all else she loved life and everything it had to offer.

Margot was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Truman Smith and all 6 of her siblings. She is survived by her two children; daughter Simone Strah and her husband David of Ponca City, and Rex Smith of Tulsa, three granddaughters Heather Harris and Rylee Strah of Ponca City, Kayla Sims and husband Austin of Broomfield, Colorado, and two grandsons Ryan Smith and Ian Smith of Tulsa. One great-grandson Cope Truman Sims of Broomfield, Colorado.

A celebration of her life will be held at her home, 4568 E. Prospect for family and friends on Sunday, September 17th at 2:00 PM.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma located at 445 Fairview, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
