Leslie Dwayne "Smitty" Smith

May 11, 1932 ~ June 10, 2007

Born May 11, 1932 in Spearman, Texas Leslie Dwayne "Smitty" Smith, of Weatherford, Texas went to be with his heavenly Father on June 10, 2007.

Mr. Smith served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954, during the Korean War. He served on the USS Diphoda, an ammunition ship used to carry ammunition between depots in Japan and Korea, to combat units and ships, and later on the USS Current.

Upon his return, Mr. Smith married Betty Jane Jordan November 12, 1955.

They lived in Galveston, Texas for fifteen years, where Mr. Smith worked as a welder and was a mermber of the local C.B. Club where his handle was "Grease Monkey". The Smith's moved to Weatherford in 1978 where Mr. Smith worked for Jordan Construction and later retired from Don Farris Trucking.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie B. Smith; mother, Lucille McClellan Smith; sisters, Patricia Williams and Bonita Beals; and one brother-in-law Harold Beals; and daughter, Leslie June Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Betty Smith; son, Darrell Smith and wife, Jo; daughter, Janet Warren and husband, Jason; brother, Billy Mack Smith; sisters, Loretta Kinney and husband, Jim; and Jeweleen Smith, all of Weatherford; grandchildren, Janice Worsham and husband, Michael; Sabrina Johnson and husband, Mark; Crystal Beldowski and husband, Jonathan; great grandchildren, Carly Johnson, Marissa Worsham, Michael Worsham Jr., and Jonathan Beldowski Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at White's Chapel of Memories in Weatherford, Texas with burial in the Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Attending their Uncle Leslie's services were Terry and Ladonna, Hannah, Andrew and Daniel Beals of Roll, Oklahoma; Joan Taylor and Lonnie and Linda Beals of Elk City, Oklahoma; and Don and Jean Whiteneck of Ringwood, Oklahoma.

The services were officiated by Rev. Terry Beals and Chris Powell.
