The family will be receiving the comfort of friends and loved ones for Joseph "Little Joe" Smith, Jr. Sunday July 23rdfrom 1:00 – 3:00 at Criswell Funeral Home in Ada, Oklahoma. Friends and family may call at Criswell Funeral Home for viewing Saturday Noon until 9:00 p.m.
Joseph remains will be honorably escorted to New Mexico by his brother, Robert Smith where he will be laid to rest along side his father and brother.
Graveside Services will be held at San Jon Cemetery in San Jon, New Mexico, officiated by a Chaplain of the U. S. Army and Dunn Funeral Home in Tucumcari, NM.
Mr. Smith passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017 at his home. He was born January 15, 1957 at Tucumcari, New Mexico to Joseph Palmer and Barbara Day Smith. He graduated from San Jon Municipal high school in 1975. He was of the Baptist faith and had made it known of his salvation.
Mr. Smith retired as specialist 4th Class, from the National Guard Army as part of the United States Armed Forces. He enlisted in 1975 and served until 1987.
He resided at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico with Debra Williams and their children. Where he reported for active duty at McGregor Range.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara Smith, of the home; two daughters, Debra Cranford and husband Rick of Ada and Jessica Gaither and husband Zachary of Ada; two sons, Ricky Smith of Ada and Zachary Smith and wife Destiny of Sulphur; grandchildren, Megan Ramsey, Charles Joseph "CJ" Brooks (name sake), Dalton Palmer Ramsey (name sake), Chloe Ramsey and Nicholas Cranford; a great-grandson, Bentley Ramsey; a brother, Robert Smith and wife Rhonda of Dexter, NM; nephew, Caleb Smith; niece, Tanya Patterson and husband Andy Patterson; and many other extended family whom Joe loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph P. Smith, Sr.; and a brother, Ricky L. Smith.
Bearers will be Marlin Terry, Ricky Cranford, Zackary Gaither, Ricky Smith, Zackary Smith, Caleb Smith, Andy Patterson and Caleb Gould.
