James Alan Smith Sr. left his earthly home on March 21, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 59 years, 5 months, and 24 days. He was born September 26, 1960 in Toledo, Ohio to Tommie Gale Smith and the late Elizabeth Ambroski Smith.
James moved from Ohio to Oklahoma City at an early age. He remembered visiting Tishomingo as a child and decided it was the place he wanted to make his home. He married Teresa Lawton on January 21, 1989 in Independence, Missouri. From that union, three children were born.
James had a love for life. He enjoyed people and was known to do anything to help someone in need, even if it meant giving them his last dollar. He also taught his children this way of life. When the kids got their first jobs, he taught them how to pay the bills first and anything left over could be their "fun money." James was a hard worker and made sure his family was taken care of regardless of the sacrifice.
He was employed in Environmental Services with the Choctaw Nation at his time of death. Other employment during his life included, Chickasaw Nation Laundry and transportation, Scott Pet Foods, and truck driver. James enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on cars, listening to oldies, fishing, going to the lake, spending time with his kids and especially his grandson, Sebastian.
James was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, and great-grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Smith of the home; father, Tommie Smith and wife, Jodi of Lee's Summit, Missouri; sons, James Alan Smith Jr. of Tishomingo, Levi Jacob Smith and wife, Wenona of Milburn; daughters, Nicole Smith of Edmond, and Billiejean Sue Smith Williams and boyfriend, Dalton of Boswell; brothers, Brian Ambroski and wife, Jonna of Toledo, Ohio, Kevin Smith of Toledo, Ohio; sister, Dionne Keister and husband, John of Toledo, Ohio; Grandson, Sebastian Williams of Boswell.
Due to the Covid-19 virus, private family services for James Alan Smith of Tishomingo will be Wednesday, March 25 at the Tishomingo Funeral Home Chapel. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held at a later date for friends and family to celebrate James' life.
