Forrest Lee Smith, 92, of Norman Oklahoma passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015. He was born February 1, 1923 in Granite, Oklahoma to Baxter Lee Smith and Lennis Ophelia (Murray) Smith.
Forrest grew up in Granite Oklahoma. In 1943 he joined the Air Force and stayed until he retired in 1972 as Lieutenant Colonel. While in the Air Force he flew in North Africa and Italy during World War II. Forrest spent twelve months in Vietnam flying troop carrier planes. Among his other assignments were European headquarters in Brussels and at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. He also earned a masters degree in physics at Oklahoma State University.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Dorothy Poyner; his first wife; Hilda Smith.
Forrest Lee Smith is survived by his wife, Nancy Smith, two daughters, Mary Lee Smith, and Linda Cornwell, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
