Arlene Fern (Parks) Smith
January 24, 1926 ~ April 19, 2018

Arlene Fern Smith, 92, Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed from this life on April 19, 2018. A memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2018, at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel.

Arlene was born on January 24, 1926, in Goddard, Kansas, to Carl and Aletha Rosenstiel Parks. She graduated from Goddard High School in May of 1944, while working during her senior year at the Goddard Post office. 

Arlene and Gene W. Smith were married in Wichita, Kansas on June 3, 1944. They began their married life on Mare Island Naval Base in Vallejo, California, where Gene's ship was being repaired. After the war, they lived in Wichita where she worked at Aetna Life Insurance Company. 

Later, they lived in Enid and in Altus where she served in both towns as Publicity Director for the Girl Scouts. 

In 1974, they moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma. Arlene worked in the Agronomy Department and in the College of Home Economics at Oklahoma State University. She was a volunteer at the Stillwater Public Library for many years after retiring. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, OSU Emeriti Association and a member of the First United Methodist Church. 

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marilyn; one brother, Thayne Parks.

She is survived by four daughters, Alison Parks, Idalou, TX; Marilyn (Billy) Lee of Stillwater; Diane Maddox of Stillwater; Leslie Smith of Lubbock, TX; one son, Charles (Kimberly) Smith of Grand Prairie, TX; one brother, Daryl Parks of Tucson, AZ; one sister, Sherrie Enegren of Blackwell; six grandchildren, Trey and Chris Barker, Amber Phillips, Bailey, Emily and Frazier Maddox; three great-grandchildren, Randi Barker, Tatiana and Jarrett Phillips. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Arlene's name to the Stillwater Public Library or to the First United Methodist Church.
