Andrew Calhoun "A. C." Smith

Impressive funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Saturday afternoon for Andrew Calhoun "A. C." Smith, who passed away at his home east of town Thursday, June 19, 1941, after a lingering illness. He was 82 years, 9 months and 12 days old.

Rev. William E. Fisher, Methodist pastor, conducted the final rites and the body was laid to rest in the Ochiltree Cemetery, Perryton. Members of the Masonic body acted as pall bearers and had charge of the services at the grave.

Mr. Smith had been in the county 26 years and much of that time was spent on his farm three miles east of town. After retiring from active work, Mr. Smith has resided in Perryton.

Andrew Calhoun Smith was born September 7, 1856 in Carrollton, Georgia.

He came to Texas in 1884 and has since lived continually in Texas and Oklahoma.

He was married three times. Seven children were born to the first union, five of whom are now living; four were born to the second union and two are living; and the third marriage was August 10, 1902 to Martha Leona Sherrill of Clarksville, Texas. She and their two children survive.

In early life Mr. Smith united with the Presbyterian Church. About three years ago he united with the Methodist Church and has been a faithful, consecrated worker.

Survivors are his wife; six sons, Jas. C., Grover Cleveland and Dock Sayers of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Andrew and J. B. of Perryton; Robert E. Lee of Pampa; a stepson, Henry Clemmons of Pampa; three daughters, Mrs. Henry McDaniels of Cheyenne; Mrs. Price Wood of Stephenville; and Mrs. Jim Brown of Amarillo; forty three grandchildren; thirty five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Smith's passing was the first death in the family for 39 years.
