Services for David Lee Smart, 72, Enid, will be Tuesday morning, July 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in First Indian Baptist Church (1205 S. 3rd, Enid) with Pastor Luther McGaslin, Jr. officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps. Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
David was born on July 19, 1939 in Sikeston, Missouri, the son of William P. and Maxine Delaplane Smart, and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. He was raised on a farm in Billings, Oklahoma, moving to Glendora, California.
David served his country with the United States Marine Corps and, later continued his college education at USC and UCLA.
David married Roberta Jane Brown on April 27, 1960 in Tijuana, Mexico. They moved back to Enid in 1975 where David owned Smart Plumbing for ten years. David then worked for the City of Enid as a water production operator, retiring in 2002.
David is survived by his loving wife, Jane of the residence; daughters, Linda Smart and husband Luther McGlaslin, Jr. of Enid, Melissa and husband Kenny McFarland of Enid, Laurie Smart of Enid, and Mary Smart and fiance Trevor Loving of Enid; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; brothers, William P. Smart of Glendora, California and Dan Melrose of Enid; sisters, Brenda Camacho of Austin, Texas and Janie Melrose of Austin, Texas.
David was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sue Ann Smart on October 26, 1965 and a brother, Carl Smart.
