Helen I. (Carothers) Sloan

Helen I. Sloan, 81, lifetime resident of Cimarron Valley, passed away on May 31, 2011 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Tulsa.

Helen was born in Pryor, OK, on July 29, 1929 to George Carothers and Mona Kidder.

She was raised in Ripley and then later in life moved to Cushing where she worked at the Cushing Regional Hospital and then retired from the Cushing Senior Citizen Center.

Helen also volunteered at the meals on wheels program thru the Cushing Hospital.

She loved animals, as well as people and was on the top of the list at her Neighborhood Watch Program.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Sloan, Sr.; as well as her parents, George and Mona Carothers; three brothers, Dale Carothers, Bob Carothers, and Ray Carothers, all of Ripley and two sisters, Dorothy Van Brunt of Cushing and Aletha Snyder of Ripley.

Survivors include one sister, Freda Tietz of Ripley and one brother Johnny Carothers of Oilton; Helen was blessed with six children, whom she loved dearly, Sharon Van Brunt of Oregon, James Powell of Cushing, Teresa and Ray Saturino of Bridgeport, TX, Franklin and Janice Powell of Sapulpa, Geneva and George Bodiford of Cushing and Billy and Cheri Sloan of Cushing; Helen also had grandchildren, Bodie, Stephanie, Tera, Raeleene, Readawn, RJ, Michelle, Tabby, Frank, Jr., Stormy, Tobey, Donna, Jeremy, Ronnie, JC, Curtis and Heather and from these came 44 more blessings, her great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at a later time for the family.
