James C. Slater, 80, of Blanchard, Oklahoma, left this Earth to be by the Lord’s side on Monday, January 7, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Delia, Texas on September 30, 1932 to Johnnie H. Slater and Carmenetta (Lankford) Slater. James was a United States Marine Veteran of the Korean War and proudly served his country from 1951 to 1953. He worked in highline construction most of his life. Formerly from Hobart, Oklahoma and Dawson, Texas, he had lived with his daughter and son-in-law for the past 4 years.
He is survived by one daughter, Karmen Earnheart and husband Steve of Blanchard, Oklahoma, two sons, James A. Slater of Newcastle, Oklahoma, and Don L. Slater and wife Vicky of Newcastle, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Erich Earnheart of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Stefanie Slater of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Stephen Tyler Earnheart of Blanchard, Oklahoma; one brother, John E. Slater and wife Sue of Holdenville, Oklahoma; and their children, Shelley Wimberly, John Cody Slater, and Stacey Moore; as well as their spouses and children; and many other loved ones and friends.
He meets in Heaven his parents and two siblings, Charles W. and W.J. Slater. Special thanks to the Veterans Hospital and the staff on the 4th floor, Landin, Elaine, Jerry, Rebecah, and Mike, to name a few. Appreciation also needs to be acknowledged to Steve for not only taking such good care of dad, but for being his friend and companion the last 4 years.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard, Oklahoma. A family celebration will be held in Dawson, Texas at a later date. Online obituary and guestbook are available at www.eisenhourfh.com
