Anita J. Slater of Ponca City went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 22, 2016 with her sister and nephew by her side. She was born January 1, 1930 in Hobart, OK to John and Althea Brown Slater. She was the second child of 4 born to the couple
A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the Second Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Newport officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday October 28, 2016 at the family home. The family has asked memorial contributions be made to the 2nd Baptist Church of Ponca City, OK. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City, OK.
Anita lived in Hobart, OK then moved with her family to Summers, Arkansas and graduated from Fayetteville High School in Fayetteville, AR after graduation, Anita and a group of young Men and Women moved to Peoria, Illinois to find work. She landed a part time job working at a Laundry, and then applied at Ozark Airline as a Reservationist. During her tenure at Ozark Airline she was able to make many trips including her favorite touring the Holy Lands of Israel; she also toured Greece, Hawaii and Acapulco, Mexico. She retired in 1986 with over 30 years of service. Anita came to Ponca City after retiring to be close to family. She also went to work as a Independent News carrier for the Ponca City News. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, besides traveling whenever she could she loved to go shopping, swimming, bowling, and attending southern Gospel Concerts. Listening to Gospel Music, Avid Bible Reader , attending Bible Studies and going to church whenever the doors where open. Anita also enjoyed working outside in her yard and driving her John Deere lawn tractor.
Survivors include: her sister Carolyn Mensch of Ponca City, OK. A niece; Myra Hiser and 1 nephew; Ron Wagnon and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, 2 sisters; Thelma Slater Robinson and Mildred Slater Wagnon
