Marguerite Skierkowski passed away on November 26, 2013 at Grace Living Center in Norman, Oklahoma. She was born August 2, 1917 in Humboldt, Illinois and was the daughter of Charles R. Holmes and Jessie Eva Young. Meg had two brothers, Cecil and Robert, as well as two sisters, Katie and Louise, who preceded her in death.
Following graduation from high school in Terre Haute, Indiana, Meg studied nursing and became a registered nurse. She moved to Michigan City, Indiana to take her first nursing position at St. Anthony Hospital. There she met and married Walter Anthony Skierkowski who worked at the Weil McClain Boiler Factory. The couple had two sons, Walter Holmes Skierkowski and Paul Skierkowski, who are both deceased. The family resided in Michigan City until her husband Walter's death in 1990 where they were members of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
Meg moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1991 to live with her younger sister Louise. Following her sister's death in 2004, she moved to Norman, Oklahoma to be near her son Paul and his family. Meg became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and an active participant with the Golden Agers at St. Joe.
She is survived by her two daughters-in-law, Carole Geske of Kailua, HI and Sandra K. Skierkowski of Longboat Key, FL; four grandchildren, Julie (Patrick) Rule of Cordova, TN, Stephanie (Chris) Oliver of Washington D.C., David (Jamie) Skierkowski of Mesa, AZ, and Tracy (Michael) Smith of Stuttgart, Germany. Meg's great-grandchildren include Makena McPherson, Danny Hammond, Layton Wilkinson, Piper Oliver, Houston Oliver, Tate Oliver, Megan Smith and April Skierkowski.
Meg was an avid golfer who was proud of her hole-in-one at the Grandmother's Tournament in Michigan City. Her long nursing career was spent at the office of the Gardner Medical Group.
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, OK are handling arrangements locally, and Ott-Haverstock of Michigan City, IN will coordinate the service and burial at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of Arbor House, Arbor House Reminisce, Grace Living Center, Loving Care Hospice, and the physicians for their dedication and compassion shown to Meg while caring for her.
