ENID, Okla. - Memorial service for Sharon Ruth Claflin Skaggs, 69, of Enid, will be 10:30 a.m. today, April 5, 2013, at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Gary Lilly of Bethel Hawley Baptist Church and Sharon�s brother, Larry Claflin, will officiate. Cremation is under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

She was born July 20, 1943, to Avery Eugene and Bernice Lucille Claflin Myers in Anthony, Kan., and passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in Enid.

She grew up on a wheat farm 8 miles southwest of Wakita, Okla., a great-granddaughter of the early-day settlers in the Wakita and Manchester area. She attended Gore Consolidated School for 8 years and attended Wakita High School, graduating in 1961.

She moved to Enid as a young lady of 17, lived at the YWCA, and attended Enid Business College. She graduated with a secretarial degree in 1962, and worked at George E. Failing Co. as a secretary to Julian Stetnish.

She married Robert Skaggs Jr. Nov. 30, 1963, at First Baptist Church in Enid.

She traveled over the U.S. in the Air Force with her husband, Robert. Her daughter Gina Ann was born in Enid in 1968, while Robert was stationed in Phu Cat, Vietnam.

They moved back to Enid and settled in 1970. She worked in the family-owned business in Enid over a period of years. Also was a volunteer at Bass Integris Hospital, and in later years worked as a caregiver and housekeeper to Enid families.

Sharon was also a published poet. Her favorite pastime was working in her garden, tending to her flowers. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Gina Ann Menasco; two grandsons, Christian William and William Robert; son-in-Law, William Floyd; brother, Larry Claflin; nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Reith Claflin.

Memorial donations can be made to Enid ASPCA with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of funds.
