Lucy Sinclair, 95, of Block Creek, N.Y. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 shorty after arrival at Olean General Hospital. She was born on Feb. 14, 1919 at home in the Rocky Mountain Community. She was the daughter of Henry and Mary Mankiller Gritts.
On Feb. 13, 1952, in Oklahoma City she married Lorenzo C. "Curt" Sinclair, who preceded her in death Feb. 3, 2012.
Lucy attended Rocky Mountain Grade School and then later went to Sequoyah Orphanage in Tahlequah. Lucy and her sister Ann Gritts Kilpatrick lived at Sequoyah until they graduated.
Lucy served in the U.S. Army from November 16, 1944 until August 8, 1947. She received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Ribbon and American Theater Campaign Ribbon.
While in Oklahoma, she worked as a beautician for Salubrista Beauty Shop. After moving to New York, she was employed at the Franklinville Market Basket as a cashier. She also worked on the family dairy farml with her husband. She was a social member of Cuba VFW post 2721 located in Cuba, N.Y.
Surviving her is a son, David Sinclair of Salamanca, N.Y., a grandson, Christopher Michael Sinclair of Houston, a granddaughter, Brandy Sinclair O'Hagan of Pittsburgh, a great-grandaughter, Lemony L. Hagan, a special cousin and caregiver, Paul Sullivan of Eldred, NY. Nieces, Ervina Ishcomer Marshall, Susan Ishcomer Fields and husband Jim, all of Stilwell, Linda Hue Daughtery and husband, Sandy, Karen Hill Chapman and husand Tommy, Euphemia Nofire John and husband Stanley, Kaylene Nofire all of
Tahlequah, Carlene Nofire Morris and husband of Lawrence, Kan., Kathlene Nofire of Florida, Carmella Nofire of Tahlequah. Nephews: Norman Nofire of Sapulpa, Ronald Nofire and wife Vickie of Broken Arrow, Richard Nofire of Guthrie, Jack Nofire of Wichita, Kan., Sherman Nofire of Keys, Jack Kilpatrick Jr. of Dallas, Allen Kilpatrick of California, Clifford Kilpatirck and wife of Oklahoma City, Russell Nofire of Stilwell and many relatives and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son Michael Sinclair, six siblings: Sam Nofire. Eli Nofire Maggie Hill, Lois Ishcomer, Anna Kilpatrick and Agness Gritts Tidewell.
A memorial was held Feb. 7, 2015 at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home. Interment will be at Black Creek Cemetery
