Mary Ruth (McCray) Sims was born Sunday, March 8, 1959 to parents Clarence Leo McCray and Leona Mary (Gooch) McCray and passed from this life on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 62.
Mary Ruth is a graduate of Antlers Public Schools in Antlers, Oklahoma. After graduation she attended Murray State College in Tishomingo earning several college credits. Mary Ruth lived in Milburn a few months before moving from Pottsboro, Texas.
She worked as a homemaker most of her life taking care of her kids and other kids in the neighborhood. Most of the neighborhood kids called her mom because of the care she bestowed upon each of them.
Mary Ruth enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts, gardening, tending to her flowers and cooking. Her family can attest that she had a knack for creating and experimenting with foods making her own recipes. She attended Leap of Faith Church in Sherman.
Mary Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, John Allen McCray; and step-mothers, Martha Jean Spain and Stella Wencle.
She is survived by her son, Shawn Sims and his wife, Rashonda, of Anna, Texas, and their children, Rylan Sims, Jocelyn Pearson and Easton Sims; son, James Sims and his wife, Shannon, of Denison, Texas; daughter, Rose Sims and her husband, Matthew, of Sherman, Texas, and their son, Theodore Sims; sister, Gail Anne McClain of Milburn; and her best friend, Pamela Larson of Durant.
The family will plan memorial services at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service and Crematory.
