The funeral services celebrating and honoring the life of Gerald L. Simmons ,81, of Enid will be held Thursday August 2, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Gary Miller officiating. Cremation will follow. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
He was born February 14, 1937 in Dacoma to Fred and Hazel McDermott Simmons and passed from this life July 29, 2018 in Enid with his family at his side.
He was raised and educated in Dacoma. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in
1953 and was honorably discharged in 1959.
He married his wife of nearly
60 years Dorothy J. Maggard Simmons February 15, 1959 in Enid.
The couple made their home in Enid. He was the trucking manager for Call Cats Trucking and later purchased his truck and became an owner and operator and leased with Crabbs Transport.
He enjoyed motorcycling and later riding trikes. He also enjoyed motor home traveling and giving his five granddaughters a hard time.
He is survived by his wife of the home, his four children; Debra Lucas and husband Frank of Porter, David Simmons of Hodgen, Freddie Simmons and wife Stacie of Enid and Gerald Simmons Jr. of Enid, five granddaughters, 11 great grandchildren; one sister Graceva McKennon and husband Bob; and his dog Trojan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
