Robert "Bob" Wayne Silcott Sr. was born July 14, 1931, in Altamont, Kan., to Wayne and Hazel Silcott. He passed away August 19, 2016, at the age of 85 at his home in Fairview. Bob grew up in Altamont,Kan. and lived with his aunt and uncle after his Mom passed away in 1941. After his dad remarried, Bob lived with Wayne, step-mom Marie, and sister Janis.
Bob served in the Korean War and received an honorable discharge in 1953. He moved to Liberal, Kan. and went to work for his uncle, Virgil Waugh, as an oilfield truck driver. At this time, he met and dated a very pretty blonde car hop at the Frosty Mug in Liberal. He married Phyllis Buxton on Feb. 10, 1956, in Liberal. Bob and Phyllis were blessed with three sons, Robert Wayne Jr., David Ray, and Rick Don Silcott. They moved to Fairview in August 1965, following the oilfield boom around that area. During this period, he still worked for Virgil, but in his spare time he was taking a correspondence course on TV repair.
He went to work for Max Jordan at the Coast to Coast store in Fairview in 1969, as the local TV technician. He became very good at fixing electronics. He worked as a TV repairman until his retirement in 1996.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. His love for the outdoors was handed down to his sons and grandchildren. Many wonderful winter hunting seasons were spent with his family at deer camp on Herb and Mary Kliewer's land on the north side of the Cimarron river. Bob stopped fishing after his fishing buddy and great friend, Bill Watkins, passed. He still hunted through early 2016. He is survived by his wife of 60 years; sister, Janis Cuttler and family; son, David and wife, Sue; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
