Sonja Renee’ Short of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at her home at the age of 63 years.
Sonja Renee’ Short was born on July 21, 1961, in Arkansas City, Kansas, to Lincoln and Jovita Day. She grew up on a farm east of Blackwell and attended Blackwell Public Schools. In 1979 she moved to various communities throughout the United States before settling in Tazewell, Tennessee, until 2006. She then returned to Blackwell where she met and married Bradley Short on December 20, 2008. She was a member of the Stardust Band and played bass guitar and sang with Brad and her sister, Coleen. Sonja loved music, the outdoors, gardening, canning and quilting.
She is survived by her husband, Brad Short of Blackwell; her mother, Jovita Day Snow of Blackwell; two sons, Andre’ Wright of Pawhuska and Elard Thomas of Bismarck, North Dakota; a step-son, Jason Hopson Jr. of Muskogee; four grandchildren, Jazzmine, Daisha and Drey Wright of Pawhuska; and numerous nieces, nephews, step-children, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lincon Day; paternal grandparents, H.P. and Minnie Day; maternal grandparents, Professio and Conception Garcia; a husband of fifteen years, Robert Hopson; a sister, Kathryn Day McClaflin; and a brother, Doy Allen Day.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Christ Short officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
