Beverly Short, 90 year old Woodward resident passed away, Friday, February 2, 2024 surrounded by family. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, February 8, 2024 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Donnetta Hunter officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Beverly Maureen (Hale) Short was born June 10, 1933 in Protection, Kansas to Lowell Lotus "Bus" and Leora Willella (Carpenter) Hale. Beverly grew up in Buffalo, Oklahoma and graduated from Buffalo High School. She attended college for a short time. Beverly was united in marriage to Jack C. Short on March 2, 1952 at the First Christian Church in Buffalo, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Cactus, Texas. The couple also lived in Sweeney, Texas, Stavanger, Norway, Buffalo, Oklahoma and then Woodward, Oklahoma.
Beverly worked as a bank teller for the Oklahoma State Bank in Buffalo until her retirement. She also worked as a cosmetologist, a secretary for the school principal and superintendent and for an abstract company. She enjoyed casino trips with her son in law, Travis, grandson in law, Chad and her niece Kelley. She loved playing bridge with her many friends and played often. Beverly was always eager to play and teach others. She loved traveling and visiting many places in the United States and abroad. She and Jack spent a great deal of time snowmobiling, 4-wheeling and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors and wildlife in Colorado. She enjoyed watching OU Sooners and Texas Longhorn Football. Beverly loved being able to host her family and friends for all holidays and any other events. She was a wonderful hostess.
She was involved in the Senior Citizen Center in Woodward and a member of the First Methodist Church of Woodward.
Beverly is survived by her son, Christopher Shane Short; two daughters, Deborah Short Talbert and husband Travis, Rudena Short Cole and husband D.C.; sister in law, Betty Hale; grandchildren, Chris Kingrea and wife Charlene, Marissa Sellers Anderson and husband Chad, Cody Harvey and fiance Kattie; great grandchildren, Lindsey, Lauren, Kylie, Madden, Collier, Cameron, Ashlyn and Allyson; great great granddaughter, Maisy; nieces, Shoyleen Hale and husband Andy, Kelley Conner and husband David; nephew, Ken Jackson; several great nieces; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack, her parents L.L. and Leora Hale, two brothers, Duane Hale and Karey Don Hale, one grandson Shane Sellers.
Beverly was a pillar of honesty, generosity and strength. Her family fondly recalls the irreplaceable warmth in her laughter, the profound wisdom she shared and the frequent joy she brought with her trademark phrase "Ginger Peachy." Beverly leaves behind a legacy of love and lessons that will forever echo in the hearts of those who cherished her. Her memory will be treasured, continuing to inspire those fortunate enough to have been a part of her journey, always with a sprinkle of her unique charm and humor.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Citizen Center in Woodward or Buffalo with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
