Betty Ruth (Giles) Shipman

August 5, 1934 ~ December 31, 2003

A memorial service for Betty Ruth Giles Shipman, 69, of Marietta, were held at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 3, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta, with Bro. Larry Gordon officiating.

Mrs. Shipman was born August 5, 1934, in Marietta, the daughter of Emmit and Jewel Howard Giles. She died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at her residence.

She was a resident of Love County all of her life. Mrs. Shipman was an employee of Marietta Sportswear before working in the finishing department of Uniroyal, retiring in 1996 after 20 years of employment.

Survivors include a son, Benny Ray Coyle of Marietta; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah K. (Coyle) and Frank Hobbie of Ardmore; two brothers, James “Son” Giles of Gainesville, Texas, and William “Bud” Giles of Lebanon; two sisters and brother-in-law, Lucille and George Reed and Jessie Southerland, all of Gainesville; three granddaughters, Cheryl Cayla, Chasity (Coyle) Bratcher and Samantha (Coyle) Sessions; and a great-grandson, Trey Bratcher.

Mrs. Shipman was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Charles Lynn Shipman; and a sister, Evelyn Giles.

Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Williams, Mack Stofel and Pinky Reed.

Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
