Chelsea Colleen (Powell) Sherrick

Chelsea Colleen (Powell) Sherrick
July 3, 1970 ~ January 25, 2020

Chelsea Colleen Sherrick, 49, of Midland, TX, died Saturday in Bartlesville. She was a teacher, mother and friend who understood the power of kind words and cheerful actions, and she left this world a better place.

Chelsea was born the daughter of Talmadge Powell and Teresa (Hamilton/Powell) Meadors on July 3, 1970, in Elmira, New York. The family moved to Commerce in East Texas, then Bartlesville, OK, and Odessa and Mesquite, TX before settling in Caney, KS. During her school years Chelsea developed her love for reading which remained a lifelong passion. During high school she earned many trophies and became a champion debater on the debate team before graduating with the Caney Valley Class of 1989.

Chelsea loved learning and furthered her education at community college and in Bartlesville at the Tri County Vo tech paralegal program. Later she went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in education for a career she dearly loved. Chelsea taught at Lincoln Elementary in Caney; Jane Phillips in Bartlesville; and for the past six and a half years, 6th grade social studies, science and math at Sam Houston Elementary, Rusk Elementary, and currently Fasken Elementary in Midland, Texas.

Chelsea’s true passion was for teaching - she saw the best in every student and wanted to help each one to succeed. She was also a wonderful mother to her two children Samantha and Drew. They remember her taking them for swims, picnics in the park, and long trips to the library. Often times she would dance with them in the kitchen while cooking and they loved listening to the Chipmunks’ greatest hits while cleaning the house. Chelsea was a mother to all their friends, and all were invited to dinner or to stay longer. She loved everyone and will be dearly missed.

Chelsea is survived by her two children, Samantha Anderson of Pittsburg, KS, and Drew Sherrick of Bartlesville, her mother Teresa Meadors and husband Steve of Bartlesville, her sister Julie Powell of Plano, TX, and step sister Linda Fletcher of San Antonio, TX. She is preceded in death by her father Talmadge Powell.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020, at Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
