Donna Dianne "Dee Dee" (LeGate) Sherman

Donna Dianne "Dee Dee" (LeGate) Sherman
November 2, 1947 ~ November 22, 2017

Donna Dianne "Dee Dee" (LeGate) Sherman age 70, passed from this life on Nov.22, 2017 at her home in Norman, surrounded by her family. Dee Dee was born to Donna (Shockley) LeGate and Darmus D. LeGate on Nov. 2, 1947 in Tulsa, OK.

Shortly after her birth the family moved to Okla. City where Dee Dee grew up and attended OKC public schools including Northwest Classen through her junior year of high school. In 1965, her father was transferred to Tulsa, OK with his company and the family followed. Dee Dee graduated from Tulsa Memorial High School in 1966 and then attended The University of Oklahoma for two years.

She married Thomas E. Sherman on Dec. 15, 1968 at the First Christian Church in Tulsa. Their first home together was in Key West, FL and then on to Rota, Spain while Tom was on active duty with the U.S. Navy. Dee Dee and Tom then returned to Norman, OK while Tom finished his bachelor's degree at OU and remaining in Norman until 1977. During their time in Norman both of their sons were born, Brian Jeffrey in December of 1970 and Thomas Christian in July of 1974. Tom began a long career in banking in 1974 that saw the family move to Newcastle, then to Tulsa, and finally back to Norman in 1992. Dee Dee was a consummate homemaker and a wonderful artist. She devoted her life to her sons, husband, family and friends and made sure the Sherman house was always the center of her loved one's universe.

She enjoyed drawing and painting and practiced whenever she found time. She and Tom were additionally blessed with grandchildren as their son's, Jeff and his wife Melissa, and Chris and wife Nicki families grew. Dee Dee adored all of her grandkids, Emma, Harper, Abby, Brady, Mirielle and Maggie, and especially enjoyed the fact that she had five granddaughters since she had always wanted a girl. The last 15 years of her life were spent finding every way she could to be with her grandkids, including trips to the East Coast, two trips to Disney World and two trips to Hawaii. For Tom, she was the love of his life and his best friend. We will all miss her terribly, but are comforted in the knowledge that her suffering is over and she is in a better place.

Dee Dee was preceded in death by her father, Darmus D. Legate; her paternal grandparents, J. O. LeGate, Sr. and Jane LeGate; her maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Blanche Shockley; her mother and father-in-law, Ellen B. and Earl L. Sherman; and a brother-in-law, Joel R. Sherman.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Sherman of the home in Norman; two sons, Jeff Sherman and wife Melissa of Kennett Square, PA and Chris Sherman and wife Nicki of Shawnee, OK; Six grandchildren, Emma, Harper, Abby and Maggie all of Shawnee, and Brady and Mirielle of Kennett Square; Her mother, Donna R. Huckabee of Marietta, GA and her brother, Christopher L. LeGate and his wife, Gina of Marietta, GA. A brother-in-law, Charles Sherman of Purcell, OK as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
