Carol Ann (Nivison) Shepherd

Carol Ann (Nivison) Shepherd
June 25, 1941 ~ January 19, 2022

On a hot and muggy summer day in Enid, OK, June 25, 1941, was born a beautiful baby girl to Hattie and Robert Nivison. Her three older sisters, and one older brother, adored her.

Growing up in this household was challenging, and times were very difficult, but she survived. Once she learned how to read, she never put a book down for long, reading as many as six books a week.

As she grew older, she often moved around, Kansas, Colorado, California, and numerous places in Texas. She had "itchy feet," she would always proclaim. Times were tough, but she managed and survived. Diseases tried to rob her of her eyesight, and steal her love of reading, and even take her life, but she plodded on, like a horse drawn to water, and survived.

One year ago, she decided to journey back to her hometown, Enid. She knew this was going to be her last stop, like a train engine coming in from its final trip. During this past year, she battled the cold, the heat, the humidity, the wind, and the storms, and she survived. Her feet had ceased to be "itchy"; she was home.

Then, unexpectedly, during the cold, wintery night of January 19, 2022, she tired of wrestling with this world and didn't wake up from her sleep. For 80 years, she had fought and survived!

Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie; her father, Robert; her brother Tommy; her sisters Billie and Helen; and a niece, Sherry. She is survived by her sister Ailene and her many nieces and nephews, scattered across the country; she cared deeply for them all: Tom, Mike, Terri, Cindy, Patricia, and of course the twins, whom she loved as her own, Karla and Kathy. She had one son, Stephen (Steve), his wife Lupita, and her only granddaughter, Adrianne, of whom she cherished and was so proud of.

Carol Ann Nivison Shepherd (Aunt Andy to many of her nieces and Andy to all her sisters) was loved and will be greatly missed. May God grant her peace and make her memory to be eternal!
