Shepard, Robert "Bob" was born May 23, 1936, in Marshall, Oklahoma, and died December 9, 2018, in Norman, Oklahoma. He was the second of eight children born to Dewey and Freda (Browning) Shepard. Bob graduated from Marshall High School in 1954 and Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma, in 1963.
Following his high school graduation he served in the U.S. Army from October 1954 until August 1956 and was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, and at the guided missile site near Philadelphia, PA.
Bob and Geraldine (Dean) Smith were married on May 30, 1956, and were devoted to each other throughout their more than 62 years of marriage.
Bob worked at an assortment of jobs beginning in high school as a theater projectionist and service station attendant in Marshall. While in college he managed the Bronco Theater and Royce's Cafe in Edmond. Upon graduation from college he began his career in computing services with the majority of time spent as Director of Computing Services at the University of Oklahoma. Bob loved working at the University and by the time he retired on January 1, 1993, he had influenced the lives of many young professionals and made many lifelong friends.
After his retirement from OU, Bob spent a lot of his time helping his brothers with the family business, Triangle Industries, Inc., in Enid, Oklahoma.
He also enjoyed woodworking in the shop at his home and made many beautiful pieces that are treasured by family and friends. Bob was also a great friend to his neighbors and others in the Norman community and was always willing to help out in any way he could. He once told his daughter that he believed we were all put here to help each other, and he lived that belief every day of his life.
Bob was a loving father to his children and had a special relationship with his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He spent much of his time, especially in his retirement years, sharing his love, laughter, and wisdom with them and so enjoyed watching them grow into adulthood, including finding wonderful spouses to share their lives with and beginning families and careers of their own.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Clifford A. "Little Tom," Francis, Herb and Joe.
He is survived by his wife; two brothers, Jim and his wife Maxine, Ted and his wife Darlene; and one sister, Sue Smith and her husband Gary. He is also survived by his son, Robert D. Shepard and his daughter Debra Cook and husband Gary; three grandchildren: Jason Cook and his wife Jennifer, Katie Ross and her husband John, and Bradley Cook and his wife Stephanie; and by one great-granddaughter, Hazel Ross.
Bob was excited that there would be another great-granddaughter joining the family before the end of the year. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who all thought the world of their Uncle Bob.
No services are planned as Bob and Dean have both chosen cremation, and their ashes will be scattered together at a later date.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, hospice professionals, and neighbors who have supported them. And a special thank you to Robert Cook who provided spiritual counseling to both Bob and Dean in recent weeks.
