Carla M. Shelton, age 63 of Lexington, formerly of Purcell, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 in Norman, Oklahoma after a brief illness. She was born July 17, 1952 in Purcell, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of nine children born to Joseph Cornelius Black and Dollie Iris Lucille (Higbee) Black. Carla grew up in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School in 1970.

On February 14, 1971 she married Roy Raymond Shelton, they made their home in Purcell and together they raised their two children, Amy Jo and Jayme. Carla not only worked in the home, but she also worked outside of the home most all of her life. She first worked as a Dispatcher for the Purcell Police Dept. several years. She also worked for Ken’s Red & White, Ace Hardware, cleaned houses, and worked at the OSU Extension Office. Lastly she worked as a Librarian for the Pioneer Library System in Purcell, Noble and Norman. She loved her job and the people she worked with. She recently retired in 2012, only because of her failing health.

Carla and Roy moved to the farm east of Lexington in 2004 where they still live today. She was an avid reader and loved to sew and quilt. She was a member of OHCE and was a 4-H Club leader. She was a past member of Heartland Baptist Church in Purcell. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook and was especially known for her pot roast and fried chicken. She loved her family very much and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Neal & Dollie Black; Brother, Don C. Black; 1 Infant Sister, Linda Lou Black, 2 other Sisters, Patricia Forehand, Margaret Watkins.

She is survived by: Husband, Roy of the home 1 Daughter, Amy Jo Piper & husband Del of Dewey, OK; 1 Son, Jayme Shelton & wife Sarah of Moore, OK; 1 Sister, Barbara Tate of Shawnee, OK; 3 Brothers, Omar D. Black & wife Billie Ruth of Fruita, CO, Bill Black & wife Terri of Mesquite, NV, Terry Black & wife Mary of Lexington, OK; 3 Grandchildren: Matthew & Megan Piper and Deacon Shelton. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held 10:00AM Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell, OK. Send online condolences @ wilsonlittle.com
