Funeral Services for Mr. Chris Shelton, 86, of Tishomingo, Oklahoma will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 2:00 p. m. in the Herb Clark Memorial Chapel with Reverend Kenneth McCarthick officiating. Services will conclude in the chapel. Mr. Shelton passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Mercy Hospital in Tishomingo. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
Chris was born on May 21, 1929 in Konawa, Oklahoma to Richard Ivan "Dick" Shelton and Ora Bell (Upton) Shelton. He attended Tishomingo Schools and married Laverne Kent on January 1, 1955, having recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. He worked for a time for Floyd Lambert at the Champlin Station in downtown Tishomingo and later became owner and operator of that station. Some years later he moved across the street and owned and operated the Texaco station until his retirement.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard, a very special mother-in-law, Jewel Kent, a daughter-in-law, Kathi Shelton, a great-granddaughter, Addison Grace Martin and a former daughter-in-law, Vicki Lawhorn.
He is survived by his wife Laverne, of the home, his son Randy Shelton and wife Patti of Newton, Kansas, his daughter, Rhonda Martin and husband Albert of Tishomingo, grandchildren, Brian Shelton and wife Erin of Independence, Kansas, Jennifer Cagle of Bethel Acres, Oklahoma, Michael Martin and wife Jennifer of Tishomingo, Eric Shelton and wife Penny of Whitewright, Texas, Greg Shelton and wife Megan of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Brandon Martin and wife Heather of Wichita, Kansas, great-grandchildren, Rylee Barnes, Aimee Cagle, Isaac Cagle, Dillard Barnes, Abby Shelton, Brynlee Martin, Raelahni Garcia, Eli Shelton, Nolan Cagle, Audrey Martin, Olivia Martin and Lyndee Woodall.
Pallbearers for the service will be: Randy Shelton, Eric Shelton, Brian Shelton, Michael Martin, Greg Shelton and Brandon Martin. Honorary Bearers will be: Alton Lothridge, Johnnie Payne, Tom Lokey, Dr. Derek Collins and Jerry "Red" Wellman.
