Derwood Bradley Shelby

Derwood Bradley Shelby
October 16, 1955 - January 25, 2021

Friends and family will gather to celebrate BRAD SHELBY's life, Sunday, February 7, 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Marshall, Oklahoma. The family requests guests wear face coverings at the service. Cremation arrangements under the care of Stittsworth Funeral Home.

Derwood Bradley Shelby was born October 16,1955, in Winfield, Kansas. He was the second son-middle child of Biddle Belmont and Esther Albertine (Schiewe) Shelby. He died January 25, 2021, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The family relocated many times following the oilfield: Broken Arrow, Bixby, Cushing, Crescent, Marshall. Marshall became home.

Brad was in the 1974 graduating class of Marshall High School. He obtained an Associate's degree from Northern Oklahoma College and completed a Bachelor of Education at the University of Central Oklahoma.

He worked for Poverty Flats (Hugh O'Neil) and farmed a few acres himself.

April 26,1980, Brad and Barbara George were united in marriage. Bryan was a bonus! Benjamin Bradley was added to the family in 1981.

After the divorce and farming liquidation, he traveled to North Carolina to be a welder's helper on the pipeline. Upon return, he found employment with Koch Industries, later ONEOK, and retired in 2019.

His life was again blessed with Annette Cooper Peckham and daughter, Bethany. They were married January 8, 1995. Bethany's tragic death brought granddaughter Hattie into their home.

Over the years, Brad and Annette built Shelby Farms-a successful scrap metal/ recycling operation incorporating the old adage, "We buy junk and sell antiques."

Brad had a philanthropic heart, supporting and sponsoring many community projects. He had served on the Marshall town board, was a retired Volunteer Firemen, and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ-Marshall.

Brad is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Annette; sons Bryan (Elizabeth) George and Benjamin Shelby; granddaughters Chloe George and Hattie Zimmer; grandsons Kyler George and Oliver George; brother Irvin (Linda) Shelby; sister Janet (Mike) Murphy; nieces Mandy Shelby, Amy Shelby, Angie Shelby and Shelby Murphy; nephew Earl Murphy (Celestine) Murphy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Bethany, grandson Kaleb George and great-grandson Maverick Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent in care of City Clerk, Marshall OK 73056, to build a picnic pavilion in the town park.

Our family is grateful for all prayers and acts of kindness shown during Brad's illness. He was a big man in all the nice ways.
