January 25, 1939 - October 16, 2023

Dorothy Shannon age 84, passed away on October 16, 2023 in Purcell, OK. Dorothy Gelene Keesee was born the youngest of three, on January 25, 1939 to Moyse Keesee and Faye Marie Keesee (Lamirand). She was raised in the Wanette area and attended school there, graduating with the Tiger class of 1956.

After high school, Jean and her husband made their home in Oklahoma City where she began working at Citizen’s Bank. Later, she moved to Penn Square Bank where she served as Vice President, before moving on to the FDIC. Jean spent around 40 years in banking, and still managed to find time during her career to own and operate Bill’s Grocery and Feed in Wanette, OK. When she wasn’t working, Jean enjoyed coaching and little league sports. Over the years, she coached high school basketball through a church league, and cheered on her grandchildren as they competed. Jean was a very good cook, known for her chocolate pie and annual Thanksgiving feast. She was an all-around kind, loving, and fun person. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her parents Moyse and Faye Keesee. Her husband Billy Shannon, her son Butch Shannon, and her sister Delia “Sissy” Shannon.

Jean is survived by her children, Charlotte Effinger and husband Arnold of Paoli, and Jeff Shannon and wife Cathy of Kilgore, TX. Her siblings Johnny Keesee and wife Gail of Wanette, sister-in-law Ronda Smith of Purcell, and brother-in-law David Shannon and wife Connie of Norman. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
