William N. “Bill” Shafer, Jr, 69, passed away December 18, 2013 in Norman, OK. Bill was born in Shawnee, OK to William Noel Shafer, Sr. and Norma Lou McClain on June 30, 1944.
Bill’s family moved to Altus, OK where he was raised and graduated from high school. He attended Oklahoma Christian College where he met his first wife, Paulette. They were married August 31, 1963, and raised their family in Edmond, Oklahoma. For six years, he proudly served his country in the National Guard. Bill had a long successful career in Information Technology working for National Share Data and as a Senior Vice-President for Liberty National Bank. He continued his career in 1990 with the Office of State Finance, where he was Director of Information Services for the entire State of Oklahoma until he retired in 2006. Bill married Lexa Carden in December 17, 1994 in Norman, OK. Bill loved spending time with his family and friends singing and playing classic country music on his guitar. He loved traveling with the Corvette Club, going on cruises to with his wife, Lexa, and spending time at one of his favorite places in the Wichita Mountains. Bill will be remembered by his family for having an out-going personality and just fun to be around.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Lexa; daughter, Shawn Shafer of OKC; sons, Steve Shafer of OKC, Wes Hamm of San Francisco, Scott Hamm and his wife Tiffany of Oletha, KS; mother of Steve and Shawn Shafer, Paulette Shafer of Edmond, brother Mark Shafer of Charlotte, NC; sister Gina Huey and her husband Clark of Altus, OK; nephew, Taylor Huey, and grandchildren, Natalie Hamm, Amanda Hamm, and Amelia Hamm.
He is survived by a host of other family member and friends. The family requests that in memory of Bill, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday December 23, 2013 in
the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel, 3401 Havenbrook Dr, Norman, OK 73072
. Arrangements for Bill and his family were placed in the care of the Vice
family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Online condolences may be
