There will be a memorial service to celebrate the life of Richard W. Shafer 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Landmark Church @ 1106 W. Grant St. in Purcell, OK. Richard entered Heaven’s Gates on Sunday, November 24, 2013.
Richard was born to Richard William Sr. and Lillie Shafer in Electra, Texas on May 3, 1929. As a child, he moved with his family to Yuba City, CA then to Exeter, CA where he graduated high school in 1947.
On June 24, 1947, he married Betty Sherrill, his high school sweetheart. To this union, three children were born; daughter, Connie and sons, Steve and Rod.
Richard was employed as a draftsman for Pacific Gas and Electric in Salinas, CA for several years.
He felt the call of God on his life to enter the ministry, and starting revivals in West, TX. He later served as youth President for the Pentecostal Church of God, Northern CA District. Richard pastored several churches in northern CA; his last Pastorate was House of Prayer in Ardmore, OK. Richard and Betty had been married 67 years when Richard changed his residence to be with the Lord.
Richard is survived by: His wife Betty, of the home; Daughters, Connie Sanders of Purcell; Sons, Steve Shafer and wife Jackie of Yuba City, CA and Rod Shafer and wife Pennye of Ardmore; Grandsons, Rick Herrin and wife Michelle, Cameron Herrin and wife Mindy, all of Purcell; Greg Navorot and Chad Navarot, both of CA; Granddaughters, Jessica, Desirae and Suzie Shafer of CA; 11 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
