Charles Shackelford, 77, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022 at his home.
He was born July 13, 1944 to Alford and Mary (Newman) Shackelford in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Charles was raised in Earlsboro, Oklahoma and attended Earlsboro Public Schools. He was valedictorian of the graduating class of 1962 from Earlsboro High School. Charles attended Oklahoma State and earned his Bachelor’s degree in plant pathology. He continued to work for Oklahoma State in the Plant Pathology Diagnostic Lab while in graduate school.
He married Linda Anne Robinson on August 15, 1966 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma.
Charles returned to Shawnee to work for Gerdes Greenhouse in Shawnee for 3 years from 1972-1975. He then worked for Trochta Florist from 1976-1978 and from 1976-1980 he worked for Hahn-Cook Greenhouse in Oklahoma City. On June 2, 1980 he opened TLC Greenhouse where along with his wife Linda owned and operated TLC until their retirement in July of 2012.
Charles was an avid OSU fan and enjoyed coaching the TLC Chargers Traveling Softball Team from 1986 to 2003.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A. E. and Mary Shackelford; 1 sister, Cleo Cottom; and 1 niece, Dee Ann Cottom.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Shackelford of the home; daughter, Terri Lynn and Carlos Alejos of Jones, OK; 3 grandchildren, Timothy Brian Cloud, II, London Parker Cloud and Elliot Charlie Cloud; his mother-in-law, Barbara Robinson of Tecumseh, OK; and numerous extended family members and friends.
The has family has designed Oklahoma State Softball, The Charles Shackelford OSU Foundation Horticulture FFA Scholarship or Oklahoma Parkinson’s Foundation as appropriate for memorial in lieu of flowers.
Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Tecumseh Alumni Center, Tecumseh High School Campus, 901 North 13th Street, Tecumseh, Oklahoma with nephews, Chet Cottom and Jerry Cottom officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
