Fred Stephen Selfridge, son of Helen Glora (Dimmick) and Stephen Fred Selfridge, was born February 5, 1955, in Alva, Oklahoma. He passed away in Oklahoma City, August 10, 2023 at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 5 days.
Fred attended the Alva School System, graduating with the Class of 1973. He went to college in Arkansas City, Kansas. Moving back to Alva he worked as a farmhand for Larry Glass Farms in Dacoma, Oklahoma, later moving to Enid, Oklahoma, and working for Oklahoma Natural Gas as a line locator for many years.
On February 14, 1986, in Wellington, Kansas, he was married to Nellwyn Curry. They made their home in Enid where he continued working for Oklahoma Natural Gas for 20 years. In 2002 he started working as a pipeline inspector on natural gas lines moving from state to state until his retirement in 2018.
Fred loved ham radios, Nel and Fred became advanced ham radio operators. They provided the test to people so they could get their ham radio license and also demonstrated to the Boy Scouts at Camp William how the radio worked and how people around the world could use them to talk to each other.
He was an avid fisherman and loved to go trout fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Nic Perks, on June 15, 2003.
Fred is survived by his wife Nel of the home; two children, Denice and Dennis Dickinson of Ponca City and Shelly Pritchard of Mustang; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Cayot, and a brother, John Selfridge and his wife Charlotte of Alva; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
