Herb Seem, 75, of Edmond, passed away early Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the Integris Hospice House in OKC surrounded by loved ones.
He was born in Enid on September 23, l942, to Herbert and Evelyn Seem.
Herb attended Enid schools Taft, Emerson and Enid High. Graduating in 1960, he was a member of the State Basketball Championship that year. He played baseball at Enid High and also for the American Legion teams. A Sports Illustrated photographer snapped a picture of him coming off the field with teammates congratulating him on a big win. That magazine was the April 27, 1959 issue. He was an avid OU football fan and a Thunder Basketball fan too.
He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam era, and the day before he was to go over to Vietnam, he was the only one who had typing experience so they needed a typist so kept him in the states. Herb worked for the US Post Office for 27 years in OKC and Edmond. During his time at the Edmond Post Office he was there when the massacre happened. The shooter had locked doors so employees could not escape. Herb unlocked a door and several employees were able to escape to safety.
After Herb retired he took up his drumming which when in Enid schools he was a member of the Enid High Band. At OU he was a member of the OU Band. He was so proud to join the band at his church, Christ Community Church of Edmond.
