Toni Lee (Garms) Scott

YUKON - Toni Lee Garms Scott of Yukon, Okla., formerly of Kingfisher, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, after a short illness. She was 73 years old.

She was born to Fred Raymond Garms and Winifred Pauline Turner Garms on May 17, 1941, in Kingfisher.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at Loyal Evangelical Church in Loyal, Okla., with Rev. Leon Seaton officiating.

Toni grew up in the Loyal area, where she graduated from high school in 1959. As a child she raised and showed Brown Swiss dairy cattle, winning many blue ribbons and championships. She demonstrated outstanding talent for music, playing accordion, piano and organ. While living in Kingfisher, she assisted Loyal Methodist and Loyal Evangelical churches with their music programs.

Toni attended Phillips University and Oklahoma State University. After earning a bachelor of arts degree, she became an elementary school teacher, serving in several school districts and retiring from Okmulgee schools.

As a retired teacher, she was an active member of Oklahoma Retired Teachers� Association, serving as membership chairwoman many times. She served as delegate many times to the State Convention for Retired Teachers.

Toni was voted Kingfisher�s Retired Teacher of the Year, and her name was submitted for the same honor at the state level.

While living in Kingfisher she cared lovingly for her mother, Winnie. She also served as secretary at Lomega Elementary School for a year and subbed there. She worked at Dover schools� after-school program called CARES, where she taught music-related activities. She tutored in the Life Program at CTTC, tutoring girls trying to get their GED degree. She worked as a substitute teacher at Cashion school.

When Beverly Hanson, owner of Body Shapers, became ill, Toni in filled to help keep the business open.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Winifred Garms, and her brother, Jerry Don Garms.

She is survived by nieces, Amy Sager and husband Brian and children Gavin and Kelby of Balko, Okla., and Jan Biehler and husband Dusty of Loyal.
