Leola "Le" Corley Schumacher passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas, at age 90. Le was born in Oklahoma City on November 14, 1932. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School. She married Matthew Schumacher of Tulsa in 1957, and they lived in Houston and then Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Pryor and Muskogee, Oklahoma, over the years.
Le graduated with a degree in sociology from Oklahoma State University, and later earned a master's degree in library science from the University of Oklahoma. Later on, she earned her law degree, graduating with honors from the O.U. College of Law in 1984. During her legal career, she was devoted to helping low-income Oklahomans with their legal needs. When she retired, she was the managing attorney for a multi-county region in eastern Oklahoma for Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma.
Le was kind and good-natured and had a very fun sense of humor. She also dearly loved her family. She loved researching family genealogy and organizing and scanning thousands of family photos, and generously sharing with others. She was an early and active supporter of equal rights for women, a voracious reader, and a gardener.
She is survived by her son Matthew Schumacher II and his wife Carla; her
grandchildren Eric, Allison and Leah; her daughter Lisa (Schumacher)
Barkley; her sister Sue Amy and brother-in-law Don Amy; and many adored
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years,
Matthew Schumacher I; her parents, Troy and May Corley; and her siblings
Troylene Thayer, Arthur Corley, Ewel Corley, Chester Sliger and Robert
Corley.
