A memorial service for Laverne Katherine Sophia Ahlefeld Schroeder, 89, of Kingfisher, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Main and Douglas, King-fisher. David Krepel, pastor, will officiate. Arrangements are by Sanders Funeral Service, Kingfisher. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 23, 1918, to August Heinrich "Gus" and Ida Emilia Gleichmann Ahlefeld and died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008.
She graduated from Piedmont High School in 1937. She married Martin Carl Heinrich Schroeder May 7, 1939. They made their home east of Kingfisher where they farmed. He died April 14, 2007.
She sewed Lutheran World Relief quilts. She spearheaded a project to fund the education of pastors and deaconesses at Concordia Theological Seminary in Nagercoil, Tamilnadu, South India. She was a Sunday School teacher, vacation Bible school teacher, ladies aid president, LWML presdient and LWML state secretary. She was a 50-year member of the Plainview Homemakers.
Surviving are her children, Sandra Jean Schroeder Thomas of Wimberley, Texas, and Jerald Keith Schroeder of Kingfisher; one sister, Millee Livingston of Richardson, Texas; one brother, Marvin Ahlefeld of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Martin, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
